Mike Summers - October 2009:

San Jose is in the heart of Silicon Valley and a good secondary airport to the Bay Area (Airport Website: http://www.flysanjose.com/fl/ ). You can reach the BART system by boarding the VTA Airport Flyerat Airport. Exit at the Metro Light Rail Station. Board Light Rail at Metro. Exit at Civic Center. Take the VTA #180 Express Bus to Fremont Bart Station. It's not the easiest transition, but possible. If your staying in San Jose, rent a car, and then you can visit one of the many museums or watch the San Jose Sharks NHL Team. Here's a website for attractions: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g33020-Activities-San_Jose_California.html . One of the strangest places to visit is the Winchester Mystery Mansion (website: http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/ ) where the heiress of the Winchester Rifle fortune renovated her mansion for nearly 40 years. Check out the hidden rooms, stairways to nowhere, and secret passages. We actually headed south on Highway 17 through Los Gatos (which is a nice town, Website: http://www.losgatos.com/attractions/ ) and into Santa Cruz (Attractions Website:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g33048-Activities-Santa_Cruz_California.html ). We spent some time at Rio Del Mar State Beach. Santa Cruz has lots of nice beaches (Website: http://www.santacruz.com/attractions/beaches ). Southeast of San Jose on Highway 101 is the town of Gilroy. It's noted as the 'Garlic Capital of the World' (Website: http://gilroywelcomecenter.org/ ). Further south of San Jose on 101 is the town of Monterey (Website: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2813435-monterey_things_to_do-i ), which has more things to do than San Jose. This is the place to visit in this part of California. Enjoy the San Jose area!
